IBIS launches new high speed digital finishing system

IBIS Integrated Bindery Systems, a leader in digital in-line saddle stitching, has launched its Smart-binder Plus High Speed (HS) system to further increase market share.

The new Smart-binder Plus HS adds several enhancements to the base market leading Smart-binder system resulting in production of up to 7,000 booklets an hour at web speeds up to 200 metres a minute, whilst retaining saddle binding page variations in normal increments of four.

The HS model's unique offering over previous models involves a new higher speed infeed, folding and sheet collecting system and performance enhancements to the trimmer transport system.

The IBIS Smart-binder Plus HS is the only system to fold sheets individually and provide integrated sheet and booklet tracking systems for true variable data production output. Smart-binders model SB-3, 4 and 5 include IBIS's unique and patented Individual Sheet Gluing (ISG) cold glue binding, which replaces the need for conventional wire stitching. ISG gluing provides a higher quality bind, and allows the number of pages in each booklet to be continually varied from four pages up to 10mm maximum book thickness - without stopping the sheet infeed flow from the web or sheet feeder.

IBIS, of High Wycombe, UK, now in its 15th year of trading, unveiled the original Digi-stitcher in 1999 which was built specifically for the digital print workspace. This was replaced by the Smart-binder series of saddle stitchers in 2004. The IBIS Smart-binder series offers a variety of high quality booklet and book finishing options, including the capability of producing personalised "books-of-one", either in-line with a continuous web digital press, or from a roll, or sheet pile feeder. Prices start from £120,000 for an in-line IBIS Smart-binder system.

IBIS, which has secured a series of 'world firsts', has links with all major digital manufacturers. In 2012, it unveiled the first IBIS SB-5 system to automatically change on the run between saddle stitching and perfect binding at a Government Printing site in Italy.. This year it has been announced that IBIS systems have produced more than one billion digitally printed books and booklets across the world.

John Cracknell, Managing Director of IBIS Integrated Bindery Systems, said: "The IBIS Smart-binder Plus HS reinforces our commitment to quality, customers and a need to satisfy a growing demand for our market leading systems that make digital print more relevant and immediate to the recipient.

"As market leader, we are confident that the announcement of our new high-speed system will generate significant new revenue flows for our growing global customer database."
